Claywork by Debi Wichman

I have always felt the need to create, play, and experiment.    Clay allows me to be creative in any manner I choose  -  throwing pots,  drawing,  painting, sculpting,  or simply manipulating the soft clay with my hands to see what ideas begin forming.    I am completely in awe of God's creation and find never-ending inspiration in viewing nature.

I work with stoneware clay in a variety of colors and textures and use commercial glazes and sometimes underglazes.    A range of techniques are employed including wheel throwing,  slab-building,  coils,  and hand-forming. Many times I layer the glazes,  mix them together,  or add raw components in order to get the effects a piece requires.

My art is an extension of my relationship with the world. It allows me to ponder over nature's sensory experiences and leaves me with a lasting facet of that experience.
